Brunch is one of the best parts of any Manhattanites weekend. It is that time to reconnect with a bunch of friends and family, relax, enjoy some delicious mimosas and eggs and just appreciate the time off. With all the noise from the surrounding tables though, it tends to get a bit loud and not necessarily what you want to hear for a relaxing experience. Cue in the Kitano New York's Sunday Brunch, located conveniently on Park Avenue between 37th and 38th Street. Know as the only Japanese-owned hotel in New York City, they offer a fantastic Sunday Jazz Brunch scheduled at 11am and 1pm.
The Brunch features the stylings of Tony Middleton and his band, which consists of two amazing players on the cello and piano, respectively. I went with a friend of mine yesterday to experience the jazz brunch up front and it truly was lovely and delightful. Tony's voice is really hard to put into words as the levels and depths he is able to communicate to his audience is so strong and wonderful that it really added to the overall experience. Tony and his band also treated us to some legendary classic songs during his set. The hotel itself is quite beautiful and majestic in size, and the room where the brunch was featured was pretty spacious and fantastic as well.
Here is a bit more about the brunch. Offering two performance sets – one at 11am and another at 1pm, guests can avoid waiting times and make reservations in advance (a rarity in the NYC brunch world!). Served buffet-style, the Sunday Jazz Brunch includes an assortment of breakfast and supper items, along with the choice of bloody mary, mimosa, or aperol spritz for $35 per person. The food is plentiful and delicious. Definitely try out the salmon, eggs and variety of fresh fruit they provide to add to your experience.
