Last night at Super Bowl 50, we saw some pretty incredible and amazing moments, both from the sports and music field. Peyton Manning and The Denver Broncos triumphantly won over the favored Carolina Panthers, which is a pretty great punctuation mark for Peyton's amazing long sentence of a career. Millions of people were ecstatically waiting for the halftime show, in which superstars Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Coldplay rocked the house to commemorate the 50th year of this legendary game being played. Upon closer look, you would have noticed that Chris Martin was wearing a Global Citizen armband, an organization that has a goal of ending extreme poverty by the year 2030. There is, however, a Manhattan connection to this story.
That connection is that every year, some of the biggest stars in the world come together in New York City for The Global Citizens Festival, which this past year saw the likes of Pearl Jam, Ariana Grande and Tori Kelly all show up to 60,000 plus people in Central Park in a way to help end Global Poverty in the very near future. Chris Martin is an ambassador and curator for Global Citizen, and is proof that you can bring this incredible cause to millions of people's attention with a simple accessory.
As if that wasn't enough, he shared the stage with Beyonce, who is riding high after having a massive weekend with the release of her incredible song and video "Formation". Beyonce is no stranger to Global Citizen, where she performed at the festival last year and is also involved with Chime For Change, where she is a cofounder. Chime For Change is dedicated to women and girls' equality, so to have both of these powerful and influential people on one stage together just shows the massive amounts of progress we have taken in order to make this world a better place, even through song.
