It is always fun, especially in New York City, to find hidden gems that provide a ton of delicious treats for you to enjoy. I was lucky enough to discover just that when I stopped by Pound & Pence, located in the heart of the Financial District on the corner of Liberty Street. Just outside several of the subway lines like the 2,3,J and Z, Pound & Pence prides itself as being the only authentic English Pub located in the Wall Street area. Giving itself such a high regard, I went in and came out of its restaurant feeling satisfied and pleased with the entire experience.
Pound & Pence, opened for over twelve years now, really does read like you are walking into something out of New York City and right into England-type culture, with its beautiful, comfortable and well structured chairs and gorgeous walls and carpeting. Throughout the location you will find beautiful paintings adorning the walls, especially if you are on the 2nd floor and can really appreciate a birds eye view of it. The location sets itself up as a great place to go to for after hours, as on the first floor there is a fantastic bar for you to kick back with friends and enjoy some great drinks and snacks.
As for the food itself, there were several options that I tried out that were quite delicious and appeased to my palate quite greatly. The starters pictured above were each delectable in their very own way. A simple Caesar Salad is always a great way to start off the meal, and I appreciated the Parmigiano croutons and the lightly touched dressing on top as it wasn't overpowering as Caesar dressing tends to be. Their Kobe Beef Sliders were a standout for me, which had caramelized onions, cheddar and a smoked aioli that really added a necessary punch to a delicious two bite appetizer. Another favorite was their Spicy Chicken Fingers, served with a buffalo sauce and blue cheese. Chicken Fingers by themselves are pretty tasty, but when you add a great spice element to them, it provides a great level of heat that make this starter even better. Other great starters were their Buffalo Wings and Cremini Mushroom Quesadillas.
Although they have a great line of burgers and sandwiches, I really wanted to try something of authentic English fare for my main course, so I opted for their English Beef Stew with potatoes, baby carrots and toasted bread. With just a bit of added salt, this really was an incredibly tasty dish that was perfect for the late Winter weather that we have been having. The beef was cooked perfectly and the carrots and potatoes were great supporting characters in this wonderful dish.
To finish this wonderful meal off, I was treated to their decadent and heavenly Chocolate Mousse, with a side of whipped cream and fresh strawberry. A great way to end the meal. Pound ^& Pence is definitely a restaurant I would go to for its ambiance, creativity with its food, and so much more. For more information, check out their official site.
