With so many trendy neighborhoods on the rise it seems as if people are neglecting how much charm and charisma the West Village has. Places like DUET remind us why the West Village is not dead. . Located on the corner of Barrow Street and 7th Ave South, DUET is in a perfect location steps away from majority of the trains lines we use everyday. Having a restaurant that is located on an intersection is guarantee for perfect views and excellent cross breeze just like DUET restaurant.
Upon entering the establishment you will be blown away by how spacious everything is, featuring an open kitchen concept where you can sight the cooks as they prepare dishes. The traditional décor is completely diverse, from the places who decided to adapt to a more modern décor which also sets this place apart. The rustic mirrors, plush seating, mini chandeliers above each table just screams eastern European vibe that many New Yorkers are not used to.
The floor to ceiling window concept allows for light to shine through, making the restaurant feel pleasant and inviting regardless of the time of year. The upstairs is very spacious which can be utilized for those who anticipate visiting with a larger crowd. Let’s not forget to mention their House Infused Vodka Wall that highlights several natural fruits soaked in vodka waiting for your indulgence.
Chef Dmitry Rodov is the executive chef of DUET and all of the inspiration for each dish comes from his creativity, along with being motivated from all of the fierce competition in the neighborhood. Through all of this, Rodov remained modest and true to his roots which derives from a long line of cooks in his family. Rodov combined the training he received in France with his family traditions to create the menu that DUET visitors love.
If you’re looking for the best option to start your meal with, I recommend the Kobe Beef Carpaccio along with the Avocado Salad, two unique dishes with different tastes that complement each other.
The Kobe Beef Carpaccio features filet mignon strips, Asian pears, arugula and parmesan, oh wait, how can I forget the basil. The arugula combined with the filet mignon together and the parmesan creates an fascinating balance of flavors with each bite.
DUETS Avocado Salad is a chunkier version of guacamole, with every ingredient being visible. The texture of the salad is wholesome with the added pieces of plantains chips that make it an ideal dip.
When deciding what to try for dinner I went with the entrée that grabbed my attention from the unique name, Army Beef Bolognese Linguine. Anyone who is familiar with what Army beef is can imagine why I was so curious to try this rendition.
The beef was so tender and creamy where it melted in your mouth with every bite; the Bolognese sauce impelled the dish to the next level. The portion was extremely healthy, which allowed each flavor the opportunity to settle on my senses.
As the desert menu came I was completely full however not full enough to turn down the treats DUET has on the menu. The Trio of Crème Brulee was everything I expected and more. Three distinct flavors to satisfy any palette; whether, you’re a chocolate fanatic, vanilla enthusiasts or someone who prefers a nutty taste this is for you!
DUETS Restaurant exemplifies why the West Village is not dead and how it is still growing. Not to mention there is a special chef’s menu that changes everyday added with the classic dishes I mentioned earlier.
