Sweet summer nights are finally upon us; the warm and sticky breeze with a hint of salt lingering on our skin for hours. The neon glow of city signs light up the night with a day glow cast, while everyone finally breaks out their retired skimpy clothes and turn the streets into their glamorous bitch. The city of summer is our runway and what better time to try out the latest and greatest makeup trends that are taking this season by storm. Try ramping up your glam with these new tricks in your arsenal.

Bold Liner:  Striking cobalt blue and oblivion black winged liner are making a bold statement these days as the sole standout makeup feature on a finished face.  Try Stila’s Stay All Day waterproof liquid eyeliner in Cobalt or Intense Black to line the eye and keep the lips minimal. No competing features for this look!

WHAT TO DO: Using a good primer like Benefit’s Stay, Don’t Stray, prime all over the lid and set with translucent powder. Next use your bold liner of choice; liquid is a great place to start with. Starting from the inner corner gently swipe outwards using the side edge of the liner brush. Start skinny and gently widen the line as you get out farther towards the corner of the eye. Thicken the outer corner to make a winged liner look. Finish with mascara and Voila!

Monochromatic Face: Once upon a time using one color all over the face was considered a faux pau, but that is a thing of the past. This summer imagine a warm peach flush on the cheeks and apricot shimmer swept across the eye in a unicolor look taken fresh from the runway. Honestly, less is more this season. Peach and pink tones are big this time of year.

WHAT TO DO:  Since you are only working with one color, choose your desired shade and pick products to coordinate accordingly. For example if you choose to do a purple monochromatic face, try the deeper more pronounced hues on your lids and a sheer violet blush like Lorac’s Buildable Blush in Ultra Violet and a sheer lip. Or if you prefer a more dramatic lip go for the bold color there and down play the lids.

Big Bad Ass Lashes: Say hello to big bad lashes again these coming months with wispy spider lashes thanks to new formulas in mascara like Maybelline’s new The Colossal Spider Effect mascara.  These new formulas elongate the lash while separating it to give that open, wide eyed appearance, much like Twiggy. Everyone will be walking around looking surprised. It goes along with the minimalist approach we are seeing so much of lately, allowing the mono lid color or BOLD LINER to peek through.

WHAT TO DO: On clean, dry lashes sweep one coast of mascara and let it get tacky. Sweep another coat and before it dries completely, separate the lashes into skinny individual clusters until you’ve completed the eye. Best method is using a toothpick to separate and isolate your sections, but BE CAREFUL!! Don’t sneeze.

Red Bottom Nails: A sexy, sophisticated yet unexpected new twist on a classic manicure is popping up lately- painting the underside of your nails a classic bombshell red. This look can cover so many different aspects of personality, from the classy uptown women to the grungy SOHO rocker chic look.

WHAT TO DO: Choose a simple, understated color like beige or nude. Even whites with a hint of pink like Essie’s staple shade East Hampton Cottage is a good choice for the top side of the nails. Then choose a pop of red like Zoya’s color Sooki to paint the underside of the free edge of the nail, like our favorite red bottom shoes.

Faux Freckles: Look like you were kissed by the sun in more ways than one with fake freckles! America loves being bronzed and gorgeous but nobody ever embraces the cute fresh faced appeal of freckles. Finally, some recognition here!

WHAT TO DO: Brow pencils come in an array of natural tones, depending on how light or dark you want your freckles, and your individual skin color. Use a trusty brand like Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Wiz in a shade like Soft Brown or Taupe and dot across the bridge of your nose and the top of your cheeks, mimicking the natural pattern. Attempt to space them out evenly, not too clustered because then it can look like a dirty face rather than an effortless effect. If possible, pull up an inspiration picture to base natural placement around. Set with a translucent powder and go!
