I almost missed Pink's NYC as I walked past it. It’s hidden under some scaffolding and almost looks like it should be the kitchen for the restaurant in front of it. Inside is a different story.
The interior is set up to look part dive bar and part 50’s garage. Last week, they opened The Body Shop, a small lounge area located right behind the bar. The 50’s décor is even more noticeable, though there are a lot of touches that are fun. The tables are drums with interior lights, and the overhead lamps are made out of light bulbs and cymbals. There’s a partition that you can use to reach the bartender, though there was always someone in, checking in on everyone, so it’s almost a moot point (Though, the room is used as a green room, sometimes, for some of the performers, so that becomes less about convenience and more about privacy). It’s a fun little area that’s great for conversation, due to the way the room is arranged, especially if the bar area is getting loud (there was a birthday party going on when we walked in).
We started with the Mezcal Mule, a variation on the Moscow Mule, with Mezcal, lime, ginger beer, bitters, and candied ginger, along with the Chips with queso, pico de gallo, and guacamole. The guac was nice and chunky and the pico tasted fresh. This was followed by the Pink’s Lemonade (Vodka, grapefruit, lime, mint, orange bitters) and the Ground Beef and Smoked Chicken T-Bird tacos. The lemonade, one of the signature drinks, was highly refreshing and the tacos were very taco truck, which is a good thing for those of you who know what I’m talking about. To cap off the night, we had a vodka slush mixed with fresh strawberry puree.
Pink’s NYC has a good mix of food and drinks, but is also trying to create a community place to do more than just sit and drink and stare at the wall. Their calendar is pretty full, with stand up night, and Rock and Roll Bingo, live bands, and a night called Fem Friq, which is a music networking night for women artists, producers, songwriters, etc. Check out their calendar on their web page for more information on their events.
