HGU New York, located on 32nd Street between Madison and Park Avenue, is a gorgeous and beautiful addition to the already booming NoMad area of Manhattan. Located only a couple avenues away from Penn Station, it is the perfect place to check in for people traveling from afar who want to experience all they can about Manhattan and not travel too much when doing so. I stayed there over the weekend, and was thoroughly impressed by all of it.
Although HGU New York has only been opened for about six months, the actual location of the hotel has been around for over a century now. Here is some more vital information about the history of this location, the renovation, and how it got to where it is today.
NoMad district's newest boutique hotel HGU New York is a 90-boutique hotel which manifests the city's history through its original architecture, curated art programming and multifaceted eclectic design. The hotel offers guests a truly authentic experience of New York City showcasing the history of the 1905 Beaux-Arts Foundation, complimented by contemporary art and modern renovations and amenities.
HGU New York partnered with Gallery 151, a premier contemporary art gallery based in lower Manhattan. The curated art showcases contemporary pieces, drawing inspiration from urban backdrops of New York City’s emerging artists and feature icons such as Fab 5 Freddy and Liz Markus, among many others.
Highlighting a residential style of living, the entryway to guest rooms serves as a place to decompress, with soft tones creating a serene atmosphere, while wood cabinets and furniture are complimented by hand-woven patchwork Turkish rugs and plush velvet headboards. Luxury 300-thread count Frette bedding, bath and beauty products from C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries, 24-hour room service and complimentary high speed Wi-Fi and in room iPad minis are just some of the amenities available to guests. The hotel lobby preserves the history of the 1905 landmark Beaux-Arts structure designed by architect Frederick C. Browne. To inject a modern New York sensibility to the property, Alfa Development has enlisted hospitality designer Peter Guzy of Asfour Guzy Architects as well as DD Allen of Pierce Allen Design.
I stayed in one of their king suite rooms on the seventh floor and was immensely impressed with what I was presented with. The room itself felt more like an apartment as you open the door to a comfortable living room of sorts, with a plush & sprawling couch awaiting you upon your arrival to the left, and a gorgeous bedroom with a king size bed and all the amenities you could need on the right. Two bathrooms complete the room, in case one wasn't enough, and it also brings a beautiful street level view of Manhattan which many only dream of when they are thinking of visiting here.
Not only that, but HGU New York has a beautiful lobby bar to enjoy drinks before heading out for the night on the town, and an on premise restaurant which serves delicious locally sourced and coastal cuisine for you and your party. It may even get to the point, with all that they have to offer under one roof, to not even leave HGU as they provide so much from beginning to end!
