Eats on Lex, located on Lexington Avenue between 75th and 74th Street, is a great example of a fun, friendly and relaxing environment in the heart of the Upper East Side. With its American Bistro type vibe throughout, Eats on Lex excels in the execution of its look as well as its tasty food options from start to finish. I got to experience it last night and was impressed by all of it and then some.
When burgers are a mainstay in the Manhattan foodie scene, it reads as very impressive when your own restaurant wins Best Burger by any sort of medium. Eats on Lex was named one of the 21 Best Burgers by Time Out New York, which is a huge accomplishment that left my mouth watering while figuring out which burger (and accompaniments) to get.
Eats on Lex has three different menus- lunch, dinner and brunch. All have wonderful options you should definitely try, and seeing that we were there for dinner, here is what I think you should divulge in the next time you make a reservation.
Let's do the starters. I am a sucker for a delicious soup on a cold, winter night and their Classic French Onion really does the trick. Their secret weapon? BACON BEEF BROTH! I can never get enough of bacon, and this is no exception, as it added a layer of flavor on top of the cheesy amazingness that makes this sort of soup memorable.
Their raw bar reads as classics 101, and their Seasonal Oysters stand out ten fold in doing so. You have four different options to choose from- Blue Point, Malpeque, Salish Bay and Kumamoto. Any of which are slam dunks, if Oysters are your thing. I can only imagine how the taste is elevated with the summer season approaching. Stay tuned. Another great seafood option, on the hot side, is their Spanish Style Gulf Shrimp, with Smoked Paprika & Garlic Butter Sauce and Toast Points for dipping. The shrimp on their own have a great amount of flavor to them with the sauce and paprika, with a hearty crunch in each bite. Here's a fun hint- add the sauce to the oysters to really bring a whole other level of flavor to them. It really works!
Now, onto the burger. They have four scrumptious options to choose from, including a lamb, salmon and vegetarian burger. I went with the classic- Dry-Aged Steak Burger, with American Cheese, Caramelized Onions, and a garlic aioli with a side of sweet potato fries. I totally understand why they were named one of the best. The burger, prepared medium in my case, was cooked perfectly and was oozing with juices throughout. The aioli and onions really added flavor and a bit of spice to the burger itself, and the fries were a fantastic supporting cast member in this delicious dish. Definitely one to recommend next time you are there!
Overall, Eats on Lex is worth the trip to The Upper East Side in so many different ways. Definitely one that I recommend in the near future. For more information, check out their official site.
