As a guy, do you struggle to identify what’s right and what’s wrong when it comes to online dating? Granted, there isn’t a handbook, so read on to find out more.

Online dating isn’t as easy for some people as it is for others. There are a lot of grey areas as to what is acceptable and what isn’t when it comes to chatting to someone online that more often than not, some individuals can, in fact, end up turning off potential dates. Unfortunately, this occurs quite commonly with guys in particular. So, if you’ve experienced the cold shoulder in the online dating world, read on to find out where you could be going wrong.

Avoid Being Too Forward

Being direct and clear in your communications is so important for a variety of reasons. However, particularly when it comes to online dating, it’s so important to try and avoid being too forward. Sometimes, confidence can be misunderstood and taken the wrong way by many. If you feel that you don’t lack any confidence, there is a chance that you could be coming across as forward when it comes to your online interactions.

Take a step back and think about what you’re saying to potential online suitors. Would you be happy with someone speaking to you in that way? Could what you’re about to say easily offend someone? If it doesn’t seem like the right thing to say straightaway, don’t waste your time saying it as it could potentially put the other person off.

Try Not to Jump In

Yes, we’ve all been there when we’ve hit it off with someone almost instantly. However, this isn’t a green light to go ahead and start being a bit too flirty. It’s important to bide your time and build a rapport with someone before jumping in too far. Just because you’ve hit it off with someone and like them almost instantly doesn’t mean that they will feel the same way. It’s also not an invitation to be rude or begin to make plans for meeting up. Take it slow and allow the relationship to form naturally.

Keep it Sweet

Most girls love to be complimented. Therefore, consider taking some time to look through the other person’s profile, finding out as much information on them as possible, and then using this to help you interact with them. If there’s something particularly attractive or striking that you notice in a picture of them, compliment them on this. If they are into a particular sport or are interested in a certain hobby, strike up a conversation about it.

Being engaging and knowing about the other person’s likes and dislikes will not only demonstrate that you’re interested, it also keeps them interested because they will then know you care about them and want to take the time to get to know them more.

Suggest a Fun Meeting Spot

If you like someone that you’ve been chatting to and want to take it to the next level and meet up, suggest meeting somewhere fun. Avoid the bog standard “let’s meet for a coffee” chat and instead suggest something fun like wall climbing, laser tag or even something totally random such as ice skating. Keep it fun and you’re bound to attract your date way more than if you’d just gone out for the usual dinner and drinks date.

Of course, check with her first that she’s up for it as she may actually just want to get to know you over some cocktails and yummy food. And who knows where the night may end after some drinks…
