I never thought I would see a day where a major basketball team and delicious donuts would find some sort of an epic pairing, but it can actually happen! Case in point: this past Friday, the world famous Harlem Globetrotters paired up with Entenmann's for National Donut Day, where they performed in the heart of Times Square and gave thousands of donuts away for the celebration!
“Being able to celebrate donuts with our fans in the heart of New York City, where Entenmann’s® got its start 119 years ago, is truly amazing,” said Lorraine Hale, Senior Director of Marketing for Entenmann’s® Bakery, part of Bimbo Bakeries USA. “This National Donut Day celebration is a tradition we look forward to continuing for years to come.”
The event took place Friday morning, where the Globetrotters did some "Donut Trick Shots" that impressed their multitude of fans, old and new, in the most visited area of the world. I chatted with them the day before the event to discuss the excitement surrounding it and working with Entenmann's.
What inspired you guys to want to partner with Entenmann's for this fun event?
Entenmann’s, our amazing partner, helped us celebrate our 2017 World Tour, so of course it’s only fitting that we help them celebrate National Donut Day. We are all about making people happy.
Do you overall have a favorite flavor to enjoy?
Rich Chocolate Frosted is our favorite but I hear that there are some new flavor's out there. We are going to find out real soon.
What can fans expect from tomorrow's event?
Fans can expect a whole lot of donuts a whole lot of tricks with the basketball. Together with Entenmann’s, we will help pass out more than 40,000 donuts to fans in Times Square and hope take as many picture's as possible. There will also be fun activities for fans to partake in, including going head-to-head with myself or one of my teammates in a game of pop-of-shot!
At the event, the brand also showcased its newest specialty line, Entenmann’s® Donut Shoppe Donuts. The new product, featuring a colorful new top iced coating and sprinkle topping, debuted at retailers in the Northeast, Metro and Midwest regions this past April.
