We are big fans of Hyatt here at Manhattan Digest (check out our review of their new Hyatt House property here: manhattandigest.com, hyatt house comfort home chelsea), and have always gazed at their Midtown location right outside Grand Central each time we walk past it. The Grand Hyatt New York, on 42nd between Lexington and Park, is iconic in so many ways and is a big reminder of why New York City is still a classic and gorgeous place to visit in its ever changing climate. I stayed there this past week, and was thrilled with what was provided for me during my relaxing visit.
Maybe it's because I live on the east side now, but you really can't get any better than hopping off the 4/5/6 line and right into the heart of Grand Central and its surroundings. The east side has always been known for its decadence and upscale hotspots that attract millions to its area each and every year, and The Grand Hyatt New York is in the middle of all of this as it plays a pivotal role of easy access for visitors to get to their locations in a short period of time.
Grand Hyatt New York completed a $130 million, multi-phased renovation in November 2011, culminating with the installation of famed artist Jaume Plensa’s three-dimensional “Awilda” and “Chloe” sculptures. Grand Hyatt New York’s top- to-bottom renovation included 1,306 meticulously redesigned guestrooms and suites featuring world-class artwork, the acclaimed New York Central restaurant, a transformed lobby and mezzanine, multiple event and meeting spaces, revitalized ballrooms, and the innovative grab-and-go food outlet, Market.
I judged a food competition there last week, which is truly how I got my first glimpse as to how beautiful this spot is. Normally, a lot of the hotels have a small waiting room which can tend to feel a little cramped but there's reads as big as a food court in a huge mall so you can have some space to relax, check the weather and just enjoy how beautiful the lobby really is. Who knew that a lobby would be a selling point into booking a hotel?
The grab-and-go food outlet is also a really fabulous idea. I have never seen something like this in a hotel before. Most of the time, you get your basic snacks or these sorts of things are available on another floor for breakfast only, however the food they provide is like an elevated convenience store meets a fast casual restaurant as it's not just basic snacks, you can get some really great sandwiches and drinks to bring back up to your room if you don't feel like going out. Yum.
They accommodated me with a beautiful deluxe bedroom, that came with a king bed, comfortable couch, spacious bathroom and a ton of other wonderful amenities. This room provided a fabulous view of the city and was cozy and colorful as well as I really enjoyed the lush usage of red on the walls. It made the experience that much more sophisticated.
Other amenities include an in-room spa service, 24-hour business center and StayFit™ fitness center, two other restaurants on premise for the foodie in all of us, and just the realization that you are in the heart of what makes our city so great. I really enjoyed my experience at the Grand Hyatt New York, and I think you definitely will as well.
