Don't have much planned as of yet for Saturday night?  There is a fabulous event happening at the world famous Sotheby's that brings two fantastic worlds together: art and food.  Our Town’s Art of Food event will feature over 25 of Manhattan's culinary titans of the Upper East Side, who will create some scrumptious dishes to enjoy while you gaze upon the work of abstract artist and architect Richard Meier.  He plays host for the event alongside Chef Claus Meyer.

Richard's artwork will be on view along with many other featured artists.  Guests will dine on dishes from Freds at Barneys, La Esquina, Flex Mussels, Jones Wood Foundry, TBar Steak, The East Pole, The Meatball Shop, Serafina Always, Magnolia Bakery and many more as they view beautiful artwork.

Richard Meier's list of achievements are nothing short of extraordinary.  He has designed several iconic buildings including the Getty Center in Los Angeles, The Hague City Hall in Netherlands and the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art.  Not too shabby indeed!

I spoke with the Newark, New Jersey native about the exciting event at Sotheby's tomorrow night, and what people can expect from the dazzling evening ahead.

What inspired you to want to get involved in this event?

I like food and I think it’s a great opportunity for me to learn a little bit about how great chefs create dishes for special occasions.

Do you find there is a major juxtaposition when it comes to art and food?

I think art and food are related in that they are both visual presentations and the art of presenting food certainly has to do with how it’s received by the person dining. If it doesn’t look good it’s probably not going to taste good. Jean Georges certainly understands this and that is what makes him such a superb chef and restaurateur.

What are some of your incredible art works that will be on display this Saturday?

At least three of my new encaustic collages will be on display – this is a series I have been working on for the past three years with Gary Lichtenstein.

The event starts at 6:30 for VIP early access hour and 7:30 for general admission. If you are interested in purchasing tickets to this fabulous event, please click here: artoffoodny.com.
