The Workmen’s Circle fourth annual “Taste of Jewish Culture” Street Festival, illustrating that “Diversity is Delicious,” returns this Father’s Day, featuring dozens of food purveyors putting their original ethnic spins on traditional Jewish foods, on Sunday, June 17 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Sixth Avenue between 48th and 49th Streets (rain or shine). The festival will include music, dance, and family-friendly activities, including arts-and-crafts.
Participants to date include: Bonsai Kakigori; Rebecca’s Cake Pops; Danny Macaroons; La Newyorkina; Krafted by Karli; What’s the Dillaz; Harlem Seafood Soul; Ben’s Kosher Deli; Zabari Catering; P.O.P. Cake Shop; Sylvia Fallas “Cooking for my People”; Paprika Kosher; Breads Bakery; Raw BK Organic Kitchen; Zola Bakes; Mysttik Masaala; Wandering Que; Gluten Free.Sy, StuFFfed; Nachos Libre; Empanada Papa; Glazed & Confused, Cutco/ Your Best Knives; Dr. Pickle; Redefined.Coffee; and Stache of Goods.
Among the global mashups of the day will be: Bonsai Kakigori’s Land of Milk and Honey kakigori; La Newyorkina’s babka ice cream sandwiches; What’s the Dillaz’s reuben quesadillas; and Krafted by Karli’s sweet potato and beet latke. And adding some pizazz, the Workmen’s Circle will be spritzing up egg creams all day – in fact, all dads can stop by to get a free egg cream.
Food won’t be the only thing on the menu: the festival will feature dancing, performances, and instant Yiddish. The schedule for the day is as follows:
- 12:15, 1:15, 2:15, 3:15 – Aaron Alexander & NY Klezmer Series All-Starswith dance leader Sarah Myerson
- 1:00 – Special performance by the Fiddler on the Roofcast presented by the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene
- 2:00 & 3:00 – Interactive “Instant Yiddish”with Kolya Borodulin
The Workmen’s Circle is a social justice organization powering progressive Jewish identity through Jewish cultural engagement, Yiddish language learning, multi-generational education, and transformational activism. Launched by the Workmen’s Circle in 2014, the festival is part of the non-profit’s year-round Taste of Jewish Culture event series, which includes hands-on workshops, walking tours, tastings, film screenings, and book discussions.
