Roasted Masala, located in the Upper West Side, exceeded my expectations with its ambiance, decor and wonderful Indian food options when I arrived there with a friend earlier this month.
Located at 914 Columbus Avenue, steps from the 1 train, Roasted Masala prides itself on making innovative and classic Indian cuisine that is nothing short of absolutely wonderful.
I went there with a pal on a dreary and humid summer day that became that much better the instant I went inside. I was blown away by the juxtaposition of how different Columbus Avenue appeared compared the gorgeous interiors seen throughout Roasted Masala.
The rich red and yellow colors adorn its midsize location which only enhanced our overall dining experience. It was quite thrilling to take in while my friend and I read their menu from cover to cover in anticipation of what they were going to serve us.
I knew ahead of time that Roasted Masala was going to be fantastic as I had read rave reviews of its space online. Indian cuisine is an art form that I have never had a bad meal at, no matter what spot I've visited in NYC, and this hidden gem is no exception to that.
Both their vegetable and non-vegetable options were a pure delight to devour. Their Chicken Tikka, Chicken Malai Kabab and Spinach Chaat (fritters) were an incredible way to start our meals off. Superbly delicious flavor coming out of each of them that I would go back for as much as my stomach would allow.
A part of Indian cuisine that I'm a huge fan of are their selection of breads, preferably their Naan's. The Naan bread pairs well with almost all of their entrees and can be used in many different facets including to eat regularly, dunk into one of their amazing sauces or build on from a plate you already have. Their classic and Garlic Naan will do the trick here. As Oprah Winfrey once said, "I LOVE BREAD!" And I do love both of these wonderful options.
For the entree options, try a little bit of everything if you want. If you like classics, then their Chicken Tikka Masala with a side of Basmati Rice will do the trick. Their Butter Chicken, which is cooked in tomato butter and gravy (OMG) is divine as well. If you like lamb then their Lamb Rogan Josh with kasmari cardamom sauce is heaven on one plate.
Bottom line: there is no wrong way to go at Roasted Masala. You'll be leaving with a happy face and full belly the instant you find yourself back in the concrete jungle known as Manhattan.
