Fried chicken has become all the rage once again thanks to Popeyes adding a spicy chicken sandwich to their menu that is selling out all across The Big Apple and beyond. Luckily, there are many local spots that have been providing their own version of this culinary delicacy for a lot longer than their conglomerate counterpart.

Check out five spots worth trying for a finger licking good experience with fried chicken.

Nobody Told Me: Nobody Told Me is the Upper West Side's newest cocktail lounge offering innovative drinks from Alberto Miranda (Rouge Tomate) and bar grub like never before from Chef Nick Pfannerstill (Michelin star recipient, Dovetail). Nobody Told Me’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich (pictured above) is sure to become your new favorite, with “not quite slaw” and house pickles, served with fries tossed sparingly with sweet onion butter and a side of smoky ketchup.

My Friend Duke: Brought to you by Attaboy alum Zachary Pease, My Friend Duke brings a welcoming environment to Kips Bay, with a cocktail menu fit for each individual’s palate. My Friend Duke’s Fried Chicken Sandwich is made from the thigh of the chicken and served with aioli.

Bluebird London: Located in Columbus Circle with unmatched views of Central Park, Bluebird London offers fine dining. along with a more casual menu in the Gallery. A gallery menu favorite is the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce and spicy mayo.

Harold’s: Located inside the Arlo SoHo, Harold’s offers a wide-ranging, all-day menu focused on lighter fare, including soups, salads, sandwiches, flatbreads, pasta, and more, as well as Southern favorites. One such item is the Nashville-style hotel chicken sandwich fried to perfection and served on a potato roll with pickles.

Silver Lining Diner: Straight from Chef Eric Miller's new Hamptons hot spot menu is the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich. This elevated fried chicken sandwich is made with a hot honey glaze and cider vinegar slaw, served on a potato roll. In true diner style, the sandwich is served with B&B pickle and crisp potato fries.
