If you wake up this Saturday April 16th and have nothing better to do than sit around contemplating your corner of the sky, then you’d better leave your cheese to sour, defy gravity, and prepare ye the way of the 1,2, or 3 train. Head to the extraordinary Upper West side for Wall to Wall Stephen Schwartz, a musical celebration of the famed Broadway composer’s works. The concert begins at 3 PM.
Judith Clurman’s Essential Voices USA will be on hand for four of the numbers including “Testimony”, a tribute of struggle and hope for LGBTQ individuals, “Through Heaven’s Eyes” and “When You Believe” from the film, The Prince of Egypt, and “Morning Glow” from Broadway’s Pippin. Destan Owens, Nikki M. James, and Betsy Wolfe will serve as featured soloists for the 65 voice chorus. Other Broadway talent, including Patti LuPone, Liz Callaway, Josh Young, and Max Von Essen are scheduled to appear.
Clurman and Schwartz have collaborated on projects in the past and Clurman, in a recent phone interview, shared her enthusiasm about the upcoming bash. Though Saturday’s event will not exclusively be political in nature, Schwartz has recently made theatre headlines by banning production rights for his shows in North Carolina after the state passed discriminating laws against the LGBTQ community. “I’m honored to perform with somebody who takes a stand and I’m honored on many levels to do this for him”, said Clurman.
