Jewish stars of stage and screen, along with giants in the Klezmer and classical music worlds will unite on Monday January 27th for an evening commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The event, titled An Extraordinary Concert Against Bigotry will take place in the Streicker center of Temple Emanuel on Fifth avenue and 66th Street.
Tovah Feldshuh, Joel Grey, Itzhak Perlman, and the Klezmer Conservatory Band will be featured in the concert with Musical Director Zalmen Mlotek at the helm. Rabbi Joseph Potasnik will deliver the keynote address, while Moishe Rosenfeld and Bonnie Stein produce. It is presented by The Museum of Jewish Heritage, The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbienne, Temple Emmanuel, UJA-Federation of New York, & The New York Board of Rabbis.
Between 1940 ad 1945, at least 1.1 million Jewish people were murdered at Auschwitz. Approximately 7,500 remained on January 27, 1945 when the Soviet army entered the camp and liberated them. To honor their memory, the event will “underscore the commitment of the Jewish community to never forget and to continue the struggle against anti-Semitism and all forms of racial and ethnic hatred.”
