The joint will be jumpin' this Sunday evening, June 11 at 5 PM and 730 PM for two performances entitled Savin' My Love for Fats Waller. Noted music historian and author Deborah Grace Winer will host the concerts, both of which are part of the Songbook Sundays series.
Multiple Grammy award nominated Karrin Allyson will be featured, along with Broadway star Aisha de Haas (Rent, Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk). Lincoln center favorite and young artist Tyreek McDole will also perform. The shows will be musically directed by legendary Richard Cummings, who has worked closely through the years with artists including the late Harry Belafonte and contemporary jazz singer Dianne Reeves.
About the series, Ms. Winer said: “We’re so grateful our new Songbook Sundays has become the go-to jam party, every other month at Dizzy’s. Our idea is to bring people together —musicians, vocalists and audiences—in a place that’s always welcoming, and let community and music bring joy and fun to our lives.”
Waller composed over 400 songs throughout his career. Highlights include "Honeysuckle Rose," "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Right Myself a Letter," and "Ain't Misbehavin, " also the title of the 1978 smash hit Broadway show of the same name.
Savin' My Love for Fats Waller will play Sunday June 11th @ 5PM and 730 PM ET @ The Frederick P. Rose Hall of Lincoln Center. Enter at Columbus Circle at 60th Street and Broadway, take the Jazz elevators to the 5th floor for Dizzy’s Club as well as The Rose Theater and The Appel Room.
