“The best that we can do is to be kindly and helpful toward our friends and fellow passengers who are clinging to the same speck of dirt while we are drifting side by side to our common doom.” That ironic-and timely-tidbit of inspiration was attributed to Clarence Darrow, the famous United States Lawyer who tackled hopeless cases, opposed the death penalty, and was an ally to labor unions.
Kevin Spacey, star of Netflix’s House of Cards (debuting its’ fifth season later this month) and host of this year’s Tony Awards will hop the subway to Queens for a thrilling two-night only event, Clarence Darrow. Spacey’s one man show, written by David W. Rintels and directed by Thea Sharrock, will take place in the Arthur Ashe Stadium at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY on Thursday June 15th and Friday June 16th at 8 PM.
In a recent press release, Spacey said “Clarence Darrow was one of the most important attorneys in the United States and I just love the idea of Darrow and Arthur Ashe coming together: both masters of two very different courts. This is an exciting opportunity to share Darrow’s remarkable story with a broader and more diverse audience than usually gets a chance to see theatre.” The show received glorious reviews in London, where it was first performed at the Old Vic Theatre.
Spacey is also passionate about making theater accessible for students and special student-priced polices will be implemented for the performances.
